I have been deliberating for quite some time now about going ombre. Some people really don't like it, but I happen to love it {when it is done right of course}. What I love about these four looks is the fact that there isn't a huge contrast between dark and light, and gives the look of roots naturally grown out. As much as I love my highlights, my hair just doesn't last. My hair grows like a weed, and just two weeks out, I get roots. And not the pretty kind of roots. So I thought to myself, why not go ombre? Then, I wouldn't have to worry about the roots and could go so much longer without getting my hair done. But, my mom just thinks it's plain ugly. So I'm in a pickle. What do you think? Ombre or not to ombre? Give me the lowdown.

ReplyDeleteI loved the look of the style, and it took me quite a while to take the plunge. After chatting with my stylist for a while, I have three colours ombred into my brown hair, a red, my natural colour and a really richer lighter brown. it gives the ombre effect and looks really natural, and the whole never having to touch up my roots thing is a total god send!
ReplyDeleteOk, here it goes, and you know this is the truth. I am SO over this look on brunettes. It's like "uh really? you let your roots grow in THAT much? sick" but on blondes, it is an ENTIRELY different story. If I were blonde I'd do it. Much more natural also and the contrast isn't so striking.

ReplyDeleteI had several color of blonde highlights in my hair for like the past 15 years and about 6 months ago took the plunge and did ombre' the first time I did it I did it very subtle and I liked it but didn't love it! I went darker closer to my natural color and then left the ends blonde... My stylist here in Raleigh NC did an amazing job! Now I'm really unsure how I'm going to go back all blonde eventually.. I love it! I think it would look aweosme on you. It's funny as well because two of the pics I showed my stylist you used here. Good luck! Please post pics on whatever you decide!!

DeleteI am torn...I could learn to like the top two pictures, the bottom two, not so much. I just want to cut the blonde bottom off the one on the left. I think ANY hair color needs to be done correctly and by a professional.
ReplyDeleteThis is how my hair is now, but only because I haven't been to my hair salon since December, yikes (luckily have an appointment this weekend to fix it up)! I like it because I spend less money, but my natural hair color (mousy, dark blonde) at the roots looks dull and oily because of the color. I guess I see this as more of a fall look. Does your hair turn blonde from the sun, because that could possibly affect the look.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was seriously against it at first too. She said why would you pay to have instant grow out? My advice is try and get as little a contrast from light to dark as possible and have them mix up the heights so it doesn't make a blunt line. I actually am going to have my roots dyed a little lighter so mine isn't as drastic. Also, one downside with the dark showing is it makes your hair look greasy if its not super clean. Just a tip!

Not recommended! It looks great but it is so damaging. I made the mistake of doing it and I had to chop off my hair as a result of all the damage caused to it. I didn't even go super light.
ReplyDeleteI'd only recommend it if you're planning on dying the top portion of your hair dark and not making the bottoms lighter.
Hi gorgeous! I feel the exact same way as you -- I really love the more natural ombre, like a sun-kissed look...and just like your mom, my husband thinks it is hideous! haha so I'm not allowed to :) Or rather, I wouldn't get a hairstyle that my husband hates anyway. But I really do like it, so I'm all for your experimenting!

ReplyDeleteAs long as it's done right, I think it looks great! Like I think the bottom right photo is the best. It just can't be too big of a contrast or I think it looks tacky. Just a personal opinion! Let us know what you decide.

ReplyDeleteI kinda LOVE it. Lily Aldridge also had awesome "ombre" toned hair. Looked great. Why not try it? That's the great thing about coloring your hair..you can always change it!

I have ombre hair and I like it. But mine is much subdued than the photos you've shown. My hair is naturally dirty blonde so basically mine fades from dark blonde to light blonde which I like. Makes maintenance easy since I never have to get my roots touched up :)

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought Ombre just looked like someone had a bad regrowth issue, but It's grown on me so I did ombre in just a middle layer of my hair... it's still noticeable, but a little more subtle.
